Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is a crucial preventive measure against periodontitis, gum inflammation, and other oral diseases. Professional dental cleaning removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria, which are the main causes of periodontal issues and tooth decay.

Why Is Regular Oral Hygiene Important?

Even with diligent brushing and flossing, some plaque accumulations are difficult to remove at home. Over time, this plaque hardens into tartar, leading to gum irritation, inflammation, and ultimately, periodontal disease. Professional cleaning ensures that all hard-to-reach areas are properly cleaned, preventing further complications.

How Often Should You Have Professional Oral Hygiene?

The recommended frequency is every 6 months, similar to a routine dental check-up. However, in some cases, more frequent visits may be necessary:

  1. Every 3–4 months for patients with periodontal disease.
  2. More often for smokers, as nicotine affects gum health.
  3. For orthodontic patients, who are more prone to plaque buildup around braces or aligners.

What Happens During a Professional Oral Hygiene Session?

  1. Plaque and tartar removal using ultrasonic scalers and manual instruments.
  2. Polishing to smooth the tooth surfaces and prevent plaque accumulation.
  3. Fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel and prevent sensitivity.
  4. Personalized oral hygiene instructions to improve daily care routines.

By maintaining regular oral hygiene sessions, you not only ensure healthy gums and fresh breath, but also prolong the longevity of your teeth and any dental restorations, such as implants or fillings. Prevention is always better than treatment.

The first step is an examination by a hygiene specialist, who will assess your gum condition and identify any existing deficiencies in your oral hygiene. If necessary, supragingival and subgingival deposits will be removed using ultrasound and manual instruments.

The next step is airflow treatment, where fine particles are used to remove pigmentation from the tooth surface, resulting in brighter teeth. Micro-roughness on the teeth is then polished using a special paste. If your teeth require enamel strengthening, a gel application will be performed. Finally, we will provide hygiene instructions and help you select the right dental care products.

Is it painful?

This is a subjective question. Some people with high sensitivity may experience a brief moment of discomfort, but overall, the procedure can be easily tolerated without anesthesia. If you follow our hygiene recommendations after your first visit, sensitivity will decrease over time.
